- PoE / PoE+ / PoE++
- Power over Ethernet. A single Cat6 cable carries data and power to a device — eliminating separate power adapters at cameras, access readers, and Wi-Fi access points. PoE delivers up to 15W per port, PoE+ up to 30W, PoE++ up to 90W. The higher tiers are needed for advanced cameras, PTZ models, and high-power Wi-Fi 6E APs.
- VLAN
- Virtual Local Area Network. A way to segment one physical network into multiple logical networks. We use VLANs to separate resident traffic from building-systems traffic from management traffic — so a resident's smart TV can't see your access platform or accidentally chew up bandwidth meant for cameras.
- NVR vs Cloud Recording
- NVR (Network Video Recorder) stores video on a local appliance — no monthly fee, footage stays on your property. Cloud recording stores footage off-site (Verkada model) — monthly fee per camera, but multi-site dashboards and remote backup come included. We default to NVR (UniFi Protect) because the TCO is dramatically lower.
- BACnet
- Building Automation and Control Networks. The standard communication protocol that lets HVAC, lighting, and building-automation systems from different manufacturers talk to each other. If your thermostats are BACnet-compatible, we can usually integrate them with most automation platforms.
- PMS Integration
- Property Management System integration. The link between your Yardi / RealPage / AppFolio and your access platform. When a resident signs a lease, they should get access automatically — no admin entering them manually. When they move out, access revokes automatically. The depth of this integration is one of the highest-impact platform decisions in multifamily.
- vCIO
- Virtual Chief Information Officer. A part-time CIO-level advisor for organizations too small to need a full-time CIO. Different from integration work. When clients ask about ongoing vCIO engagements, we point them to partners better suited for that scope.
- Cat6 / Cat6A
- Categories of structured cabling. Cat6 supports 1Gbps over 100 meters and 10Gbps over shorter runs. Cat6A supports 10Gbps over the full 100 meters. For new construction we typically pull Cat6A to every drop — future-proof, supports PoE++ headroom.
- LPR
- License Plate Recognition. Specialty cameras at gates, parking lots, or perimeters that read and log every license plate that passes. Useful for incident investigation and property-management workflows; requires the right lens, mounting, and lighting to actually work.
- Mobile Credentials
- Access credentials stored on a smartphone instead of a key card or fob. Increasingly delivered through Apple Wallet and Google Wallet (notably Allegion Zentra) so no separate app is required. Mobile is faster to issue and revoke; physical credentials remain important as a fallback for residents who prefer or need them.
- RTI
- A commercial AV control system. RTI's iPad and wall-panel interfaces let staff control multi-zone AV — switching screens, adjusting volume, paging — without IT knowledge. We use RTI on most sports bar and restaurant projects.
- Q-Sys (QSC)
- A platform combining audio DSP (digital signal processing), video routing, and AV control in one system. We deploy Q-Sys for conference rooms, performing venues, and any environment where multiple zones, microphones, and displays need to coordinate.
- WyreStorm NetworkHD
- A video-over-IP distribution platform. Lets any video source reach any display anywhere on the network — without a fixed matrix switcher. Standard for sports bars with 20+ screens.
- Teams Rooms / Zoom Rooms
- Conference rooms certified by Microsoft (Teams Rooms) or Zoom (Zoom Rooms) to deliver a one-button-join experience. Certified rooms use specific hardware combinations and pass platform-level testing. We deliver to these specs when clients require certified video conferencing.
- Salto KS vs Salto Space
- Two Salto access control platforms. Salto Space is the on-prem commercial enterprise platform — deep customization, integration with HR/AD. Salto KS ("Keys as a Service") is the cloud SaaS platform — multi-site management, instant provisioning, no on-prem hardware. We deploy KS for multifamily, Space for traditional commercial.
- Allegion Zentra
- Schlage's cloud-managed access platform. Native Apple Wallet and Google Wallet support for resident keys. Strong fit for premium multifamily and operators standardizing on Schlage XE360 or Control hardware.
- Alarm.com Smart Properties
- Multifamily-purpose-built platform that unifies access, video, intrusion, and resident services in one stack. Strong fit when the operator wants one dashboard across multiple system categories.
- UDM Pro / Dream Machine
- UniFi's all-in-one network appliance — router, switch, controller, and optionally NVR for cameras (UDM Pro). The backbone of most UniFi end-to-end installs.
